Dear Internet,

We’ve been hard at work on an app that we’ve called Poems by Heart. It’s a fun memorization game that will challenge you with classic poems from the greats: Shakespeare, Poe, Dickinson, Whitman, Keats, Carroll…. You’ll rank, you’ll improve, and you can share your newly perfected recitations online with friends. Oh, and it’s free to download.

Read this, no seriously, go read the Thursday Next series if you love literature. She’s a literary detective in Alternate Universe 1985 England with time travel, cloning, and people with the ability to enter stories. Plus, it’s very British in style.

Gilbert and publisher Viking spent two months battling over the jacket. “I was going to be a diva and throw my weight around,” recalls Gilbert, until she realized: “There’s a very easy answer to this question.”

Which is why fans can view the three potential covers, which are now posted on Gilbert’s Facebook page. On Thursday morning beginning at 8 a.m. ET, fans can cast their vote for the one they like best. Voting will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. The winner, which will appear on the U.S. edition of The Signature of All Things, will be announced the next day at 5:00 p.m.

Warner Bros. has closed a deal for the rights to Nathaniel Philbrick’s upcoming book Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution as a potential vehicle for Argo director Ben Affleck. Here’s the book’s official description from the author’s website.

“Boston in 1775 is an island city occupied by British troops after a series of incendiary incidents by patriots who range from sober citizens to thuggish vigilantes. After the Boston Tea Party, British and American soldiers and Massachusetts residents have warily maneuvered around each other until April 19, when violence finally erupts at Lexington and Concord. In June, however, with the city cut off from supplies by a British blockade and Patriot militia poised in siege, skirmishes give way to outright war in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It would be the bloodiest battle of the Revolution to come, and the point of no return for the rebellious colonists. Philbrick brings a fresh perspective to every aspect of the story. He finds new characters, and new facets to familiar ones. The real work of choreographing rebellion falls to a thirty-three year old physician named Joseph Warren who emerges as the on-the-ground leader of the Patriot cause and is fated to die at Bunker Hill. Others in the cast include Paul Revere, Warren’s fianc the poet Mercy Scollay, a newly recruited George Washington, the reluctant British combatant General Thomas Gage and his more bellicose successor William Howe, who leads the three charges at Bunker Hill and presides over the claustrophobic cauldron of a city under siege as both sides play a nervy game of brinkmanship for control.With passion and insight, Philbrick reconstructs the revolutionary landscape-geographic and ideological-in a mesmerizing narrative of the robust, messy, blisteringly real origins of America.”

If Ben Affleck finalizes a deal to direct, it will mark a return “home,” of sorts, to his native Boston, which the actual town of Bunker Hill is just outside of. No production schedule was given. The filmmaker will next direct Live by Night, an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name.

Also, while perusing Penguin’s reading guide for the book I came across this little gem from an interview with Benioff:

Q. What are you working on now?

A series for HBO. We’ll see if it ever gets made.

That series he is alluding to? Game of Thrones.
